One of the biggest issues facing the ocean is it is out of sight and out of mind. 2021 marks the start of the UN Ocean Decade – a pivotal 10 years for the future of our ocean. We urgently need to inspire support and much-needed action to save our oceans. This is our last chance; if we don’t act now many species will vanish.

Since 2021, underwater photographer Vincent Kneefel has been on a mission to photograph iconic and endangered marine species linked to 3 mega-threats: Overfishing, Ocean Warming, and Plastic Pollution. Photography will be made available to selected ocean conservation non-profits (WWF, The Ocean Agency, and others) to support global ocean conservation campaigns.

Phase one, completed in September 2023, unveiled the initial version of "The Ocean Story." We're now advancing to capture another six unique marine species, share their stories, highlight three key habitats (coral reefs, seagrass, mangroves), and address the three major threats. This will culminate in the ultimate collection of iconic marine life in the updated version of The Ocean Story, which will feature 12 species. The final version of The Ocean Story is expected to be ready end of 2025.

This is our last chance to save our oceans. The next 10 years could be the most important in the next 10,000.
